Goddard's Immigration Two-Step
| Goddard's Immigration Two-Step Continuing his long-standing tradition of flip-flopping like a fish on the bottom of Tempe Town Lake, perennial Democrat candidate, Terry Goddard, has once again changed his position on SB 1070. First he came out against the bill. Then he said he would stand up for Arizona and "vigorously" defend the bill against the federal government. Now he says that Governor Brewer played politics with immigration and lost. Huh? Evidently trailing by nearly 20% in recent polling was enough to put Mr. Goddard's sagging campaign on the attack against Governor Brewer and an overwhelmingly popular piece of legislation. The state's litigator-in-chief launched his blustering tirade after news of the federal injunction of SB 1070 was issued earlier today. "I think it is quite clear who is playing politics with illegal immigration," said Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen. "I honestly can't think of any elected official that has based his entire messaging strategy on whichever way the political wind is blowing. But in reality what we get from Mr. Goddard is hot air." "Voters respond to leadership in the face of difficult circumstances," continued the Chairman. And that's why the bottom has dropped out of his campaign over the past few months. Governor Brewer has led while Terry Goddard has played politics. Voters demand trust and credibility in their candidates, and Mr. Goddard has an astonishing lack of both." "Problem is, people already know about Terry Goddard. They know that the last thing they need when it comes to illegal immigration is an elected official that doesn't have the ability to stand up and fight for what's right. Voters know it was Attorney General Goddard who single handedly stopped the enforcement of Proposition 200, Protect Arizona Now, After voters overwhelmingly approved it in 2004 in order to prevent illegal aliens from registering to vote and securing state benefits. In 97 days, the voters' position on a third Governor run by Terry Goddard will be much clearer than his stance on immigration." Date Created: 7/28/2010 |
