Quarterly Voter Registration Numbers Announced

Phoenix, AZ - The latest voter registration figures are out and according to Secretary of State Ken Bennett, Arizona has 3,138,327 registered voters, a decrease of 27,231 since the last report in October. The decrease is due largely in part because Arizona's counties routinely perform list maintenance to purge inactive voters from the rolls.

Of the state's 3.1 million voters, 1,118,938 are Republicans, 957,786 are Democrats and 1,033,584 have either registered with independent parties or not designated a party preference. Decreases of 5,235, 17,106 and 3,866 respectively.

Libertarians make up a little less than one percent of the state’s total registration with 22,912, while 4,996 voters are currently registered as members of the Green Party. Additionally, the Americans Elect Party has enrolled 111 voters since joining the state's other recognized political parties last year.

"It's important to remember that only those who have registered with a political party will be able to participate in their respective Presidential primary," Bennett continued. "The Republican and Green Parties are the only groups participating in the Presidential Preference Election this year. Unlike Arizona's state primaries, only registered members of the Republican and Green Party will be able to participate."

The latest voter registration figures compiled by county, congressional district and legislative district are available on the Secretary of State’s website, www.azsos.gov or by calling 1-877-THE-VOTE.
