Arizona Republicans Support Wes Gullett for Phoenix Mayor

September 7, 2011

Dear Republican Friends,

National and local Democrats say the Phoenix Mayor's race on November 8th is their ticket back to power in Arizona and a launching pad for their 2012 campaign.

We cannot let that happen!

With five Republican candidates in the race, Stanton, the lone Democrat, used all the resources of the state Democrat Party to his advantage. Here's what the Maricopa Democrat Party had to say, boasting about Stanton's win: Stanton was "propelled by the more than 175,000 phone calls and over 75,000 door knocks. Increased Democratic turnout erased a long-standing Republican advantage in municipal elections. Latino participation was at a record high. Most importantly, we put real wins on the board. But our job is not done!"

Here are the facts: the five Republican candidates split 63 percent of the vote, with Wes Gullett leading the pack. Now it's time for all Republican to come together, help elect a Republican Mayor of Phoenix, and make sure that the 37 percent of the vote Stanton received will be the high water mark of his career.

The stakes in Phoenix couldn't be higher. Wes' first order of business is to repeal the food tax, roll back the water rates increases and, eliminate the outrageous double pensions that Stanton voted to give city managers. Wes' election will mean a Republican majority on the Phoenix City Council - the first one in years - and a chance to stop out of control city spending and give aways. Wes pledges to see that the city enforce all the state laws, including SB 1070, unlike Mr. Stanton, who was one of the primary architects of creating a city funded day labor center for illegal immigrants.

The National stakes are also high in this election. Here's what the National Conference of Democrat Mayors said about this race: "Arizona has an opportunity to turn Purple if were able to get Democrats elected in this off year cycle. The Maricopa Democratic Party is working very hard to let the Democrats in Phoenix know that Greg is the only Democrat on the ballot. Greg Stanton is looking for help from Democratic Mayors. He has pledged that if elected Mayor, he will work hard to help get other Democrats elected and hell be helpful to other Mayors."

Stanton currently holds a significant money advantage over Wes - nearly a hundred thousand dollars he transferred from his previous council race. You've no doubt heard about this money - it was stolen by his treasurer and repaid by her lobbyist father while Stanton was asleep at the switch. If he can't keep track of his campaign accounts, how can anyone trust him with the keys to the city?

As the dust settles from the first round, now's the time for all Republicans to roll up our sleeves and get to work helping elect Wes Gullett for Mayor. Early voting starts on October 14th and our job is to do what we do best in this state - turn out Republicans for Wes. The run-off election is November 8th.

The first thing you can do is go to Wes' website, WesGullett.com , to sign up to help. Please -- Pound signs, give money, invite him to a gathering, join in the phone banking, lend your name, time, talent and treasure!

Thank you!
